Providers of general-purpose AI models have a particular role and responsibility along the AI value chain, as the general-purpose AI models they provide may form the basis for a range of downstream systems put on the market, often by other providers. Understanding the general-purpose AI models that they integrate into their products is important for downstream providers to be able to comply with their obligations under this Regulation. To support transparency along the AI value chain, this Regulation lays down for the provider of a general-purpose AI model the obligation to draw up and keep up to date technical documentation of the model.
