Need for expert capacity at competent authorities

Regulation (EU) 2024/1689 - Artificial Intelligence Act · Preamble

Given the complexity of AI systems, the potentially significant risks to fundamental rights, health and safety and the need to ensure a high level of protection in relation to certain AI systems, in particular high-risk ones as defined in this Regulation, it is essential for the effective supervision and enforcement of this Regulation that competent authorities and other public bodies have relevant expertise in assessing and auditing AI systems. This is particularly important when those AI systems may have been developed or used in a manner that is non-compliant with Union law.
