Deployer obligations for biometric-related high-risk systems

Regulation (EU) 2024/1689 - Artificial Intelligence Act · Preamble

High-risk AI systems used in biometrics such as AI systems intended to be used for biometric identification and AI systems intended to be used for making inferences about personal characteristics such as race, political opinions, trade union membership, religious or philosophical beliefs, sex life or sexual orientation, present particular concerns as regards the protection of fundamental rights. When using high-risk AI systems used in biometrics, deployers should take the necessary steps to respect individuals' data protection rights and to adopt appropriate technical and organisational measures to process biometric data in accordance with Union data protection law.
