Without prejudice to the mandatory nature and full applicability of the prohibitions of certain AI practices as laid down in this Regulation, those prohibitions are important in order to prevent potential future misuse of AI. At the same time, those prohibitions are not expected to preclude future uses of AI systems addressing relevant societal challenges that might emerge in the future, such as AI systems that are intended to be used for the assessment of the individual risk of committing criminal offences or to predict the occurrence of or reoccurrence of natural events. The prohibitions and any future amendments thereof could be reviewed, when appropriate, in light of new developments and uses in the field of AI.
